Everything you need to know before you start.
No. Mushroom gardens can be kept in a small shaded room, under a shelf, or in a corner of your house. All you need is a clean space with good airflow and a way to keep humidity up — a simple plastic-lined corner works.
If you start from spawn and substrate, colonization takes about 14–21 days, then the first mushrooms appear within 3–7 days after that. From a ready-made garden, you'll typically see your first harvest within 5–14 days of receiving it, depending on conditions.
Yield depends on the substrate size and care, but a healthy oyster mushroom garden can produce multiple flushes over 2–3 months. At current market prices in Uganda, a single well-managed garden can return several times the cost of the garden itself.
We help connect growers to buyers — restaurants, retailers, and households — and we can buy from trained growers when we have demand we can't cover ourselves. Talk to us on WhatsApp to discuss market support.
